Capilano University Open text

Two rows of writers, back row standing and front row kneeling, in a classroom in front of a projector screen.

The evening of March 26, 2026, found me at Capilano University, North Vancouver, surrounded by talent. CapU’s Creative Writing + BA in Writing and Literature invited me to read at their Open Text event alongside faculty and students.

Billed as a community reader, I appeared with author Carmen Farrell. Carmen spoke about the North Shore Writers’ Association, where we’re board members. I read from “What Was Her Name,” my essay in the summer 2025 issue of The Fiddlehead.

It was a good evening for troubled times. When the world is askew, there’s nothing like a roomful of budding writers to give you hope.
