A dozen years ago, after I drafted my first novel but before I revised it, I came across Donald Maass’s remarkable Writing the Breakout Novel. Filled with practical advice and clear examples, it remains my favourite book on the craft of writing.
On May 15, 2025, at 7pm (Pacific), writers are invited to explore Maass’s masterpiece at a Zoom book club hosted by the Federation of BC Writers. The 75-minute session features a mix of large-group discussion, small-group breakouts, and remarks by me about how the book transformed my writing.
